10 QUESTIONS: David Gulick

David Gulick is the man behind two of our favorite Instagram accounts, so we thought that the social platform was the perfect source for a description of him and an idea of what he’s all about.

Here’s what we found from @summerrental and @nosurfingnyc respectively: “NYC/MTK BARTENDER… CREATOR… WANDERER… WEIRDO… WISEASS…” and “This has nothing to do with surfing and everything to do with surfing.”

If that doesn’t paint enough of a picture for ya, we asked him the 10 questions you’ve surely come to know and love…

LT: What’s your deal?

DG: Just a guy.

LT: Why Montauk?

DG: The obvious: friends, family, fish and the ocean. Plus there’s a magic here unlike anywhere.

LT: Long or short?

DG: Long vacation with a short board.

LT: In your opinion – what is the best, or worst, thing about Montauk?

DG: Good friends, creative energy and the small town vibe make it feel like home. Real estate prices are making it more difficult to stay…

LT: Low Tide or High Time?

DG: Whats the wind doing?

LT: What is your favorite place to eat – or drink – in Montauk?

DG: Crow’s Nest or Harvest mid week, but there are a lot of talented chefs here.

LT:  If you could instantly realize one wish, what would it be?

DG: A boat with friends and a camera in the Mentawais.

LT/DG: Before I sleep I always _Set an alarm! Guilty pleasure: taquitos!_

LT: Favorite artform? Why?

DG:  I’ve always been fascinated with street art. It challenges you to see the world differently, as one big blank canvas. The level of control writers have with a simple can of spray paint is amazing. More than that I love the planning street artists must go through in creating a piece. It’s more raw since they don’t have the luxury of a studio space. The obstacles a street artist goes through scouting a location and putting up a multi layered piece without getting caught is an art in and of itself. That’s true commitment.

LT/DG: I love to _make people laugh_ because _it simply feels good.
