Paraplegic Duct Tape Surfer Dies At 52


“Paraplegic surfer Pascale Honore has died aged 52 in Gold Coast University Hospital, Australia.

The French-born mother of two lost the use of her legs in a car accident in South Australia eighteen years ago, but was determined to live a full and active life in spite of her injuries. One of the ways she did this was duct taped to the back of her sons’ friend Ty Swan, who used to take her surfing on the south coast. The odd couple became a viral sensation in the process, and no doubt inspired many who had suffered similar injuries.”

As our thoughts go out to her family and loved ones, we can’t help re-watching this video and being reminded of the pure joy that interaction with the ocean can bring to…well, anyone, no matter the limitations. Much like watching footage of A Walk On Water’s efforts to make surfing accessible to children with special needs, it’s beautiful and inspiring to watch Pascale realize her surfing dreams.
